July Glossybox

Glossybox is one of Canada's subscription beauty boxes where you get charged a monthly fee ($15) and you get beauty products like lotions, shampoos, makeup, cleansers, etc. delivered to you.

Here is what I received this month:

1. Zoya Nail Polish - 0.5oz - $8.00 - Full Size
The colour I got was Wednesday and it's part of Zoya's Beach Collection.  When I first saw the pictures of other people's Glossyboxes I was hoping for a green one so I'm happy with this colour :)  I think the colours are given out by random.  There doesn't seem to be a correlation between the V1, V2, and V3 boxes.

2. Alessandro International Pedix Heel Rescue Balm - 100ml - $19.95 - Sample Size of 30ml approx value of $6
Glossybox description: "Pedix Heel Rescue Balm protects and nourishes your skin with shea butter, allantoin and tree oil."  Looking forward to trying this out and it smells really nice!

3. John Frieda Frizz-Ease Xtra Strength Serum - 50ml - $14.99 - Glossy sent us a 24ml size and they are claiming it's "full size" so I'm valuating this at $7.50 instead of $14.99
This serum is suppose to help frizz control.  I'm very interested in trying this out because my ends are dry and I'm way overdue for a hair cut.

4. Eucerin - 200g - $12.00 - Sample Size of 5ml approx value of $0.30 (no, that wasn't a typo - 30 cents!)
Eucerin has good reviews for their moisturizer but the size and value of this product is kind of ridiculous don't you think?  To compare, I took a picture of the sample next to my Chap Stick... yikes! 30 cents worth of product right there!

5. Dove Softening Creme Body Wash - 200ml - $5.99 - Full size
Ya, we got Dove soap in this package.  I personally don't like Dove because I have sensitive skin and I try to stay clear of heavily scented products like Dove.  I did say in my beauty profile that I don't want fragrances but I guess that just means I don't get perfumes?  I will most likely give this away.  I know Dove retails this at $5.99 but let's be honest here, who buys soap at full price?

6. BeautySoClean Sanitizer Wipes - 48 Pack Wipes - $12.50 - Sample size 4 wipes approx value of $1
These wipes are effective for sanitizing makeup.  They are a perfect travel size and they gave us a nice pamphlet to warn us about all the germs accumulating in our lipsticks.

Value: $28.79 Rating: 2/5

Different Versions
V1: Full sized John Frieda Lightening Spray and full sized Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer
V2: Sample sized (10ml) John Frieda Serum and full sized Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer
V3: Sample sized (24ml) John Frieda Serum and sample size Eucerin moisturizer

It seems like V1 had the best value.  I would have loved to receive a Burt's Bees product.

Treating Acne

Acne is a common skin disease that commonly affects teenagers and sometimes continues through early adulthood.

I have relatively decent skin in my opinion.  I treat my skin well so now in my early twenties I don't have any acne scars on my face :)  Hopefully my acne skin care routine can help some of you on your journey to clear and beautiful skin!

My Skin Type:
  • Normal/Combination (dry cheeks, oily T-zone)
  • Acne mainly appears on forehead and chin
  • Forehead feels oily by mid-day
  • Sensitive to weather/climate changes
 Current Treatment:
I use the Clarisonic almost everyday!  It really gets all the dirt off your skin.  Check out the Before and After pictures posted on the Clarisonic website.  You can use any cleanser with this such as a budget friendly Neutrogena oil free acne wash daily scrub.  Clean skin = less acne!

This is a costlier product (retail $149.99) but it's definitely worth it!  I'll write a more extensive review of the Clarisonic Mia 2 in a later post :)
C&C's Spot Treatment is very similar to the Neutrogena Rapid Clear but I prefer this one because of the friendlier packaging.  The Neutrogena one gets hard to use towards the end and a lot of product gets stuck to the plastic packaging which I don't like.  The Spot Treatment really reduces my acne size and redness when spotted early - after one or two applications you can barely notice it!  I use the Spot Treatment on smaller acne spots and on larger/groups of acne spots I use the Persa-Gel Treatment.

Persa-Gel contains Benzoyl Peroxide which can be damaging for your skin.  When I first used this product it made my skin itchy, red, and flaky (hence why it is only used when I get a REALLY bad breakout).  The skin may also develop a tolerance towards benzo so please use sparingly.  To protect my skin from irritation I put on some mild Hydrocortisone cream (can be found in a pharmacy area of Walmart/Drug Stores) after the Persa-Gel application.  Hydrocortisone reduces swelling, itching, and redness that can occur on your skin.  The Persa-Gel + Hydrocortisone treatment is no longer damaging for my skin :)

  • Diet
For me, my diet does affect my skin.  When I eat greasy foods like pizza and fried chicken, I tend to break out the next day.  So I try my best to eat a balanced diet to prevent acne (and to have a better overall lifestyle!)  There are also some researchers that say dairy products can cause/worsen your acne but I haven't found that to be my case.

I hope you guys find this helpful.  Everyone's skin is different so please experiment and find a right treatment for you!
